Laundry Rooms

Overview

There are two laundry rooms in the dorm:

  • One on the A-side
  • One on the B-side

Each laundry room has five washing machines and five dryers. Usage is paid per cycle:

  • Washing: 2 €
  • Drying: 1 €

Payment can be made with coins or banknotes, though coins are recommended. If you pay with bills, the system will attempt to return change — but this doesn’t always work reliably. To avoid problems, it’s best to use coins whenever possible.

Machine availability

When selecting a machine:

  • If a washing machine is blinking, even though it’s empty, it means it’s not available due to a previous error.
  • Choose another machine that is not blinking.

Sometimes, after incorrect use, a machine will stay “locked” for a while before becoming usable again.

Laundry rooms can get quite busy, especially on weekends. Avoid washing on Saturday or Sunday evenings, as almost all machines will be in use.

🕓 Best times to wash:

  • Tuesday or Wednesday – usually quiet
  • Thursday or Friday – moderate usage
  • Monday – still okay
  • Weekend – early morning or after midnight if necessary

A wash cycle takes about 1.5 hours, a dryer cycle around 1 hour 30–45 minutes (often a bit longer than shown).

Washer & Dryer Operation

🚨 Important Notice to Avoid a Bug Before paying, follow these steps carefully to prevent the payment system from locking or “eating” money.

Always trigger the “ERROR” message first before inserting coins!

Washing Machine Instructions

1. Press the Start button on the washing machine.

→ Wait until the **“ERROR”** message appears.

2. Insert coins (2 €) and select the washing machine number on the control unit. 3. Wait until the amount shows 0.00 € or the machine unlocks. 4. Press Start again to begin the wash cycle. 5. Load your laundry (don’t overfill) and add detergent to the drawer. 6. Choose your preferred wash program.

💡 Tip: Ignore the printed instructions on-site — they are outdated and can cause the payment bug.

Dryer Instructions

1. Press the Start button on the dryer.

→ Wait until the **“ERROR”** message appears.

2. Insert coins (1 €) and select the dryer number on the control unit. 3. Wait until the display resets to 0.00 €, then press Start again. 4. Clean the lint filter (before and after drying).

→ You’ll find it in the door frame and behind the door.

5. Choose the desired drying program. 6. Close the door firmly and let it run.

⚠️ Never open the dryer door while it’s running! This will cancel the session and you’ll have to pay again.

Cleaning & Waste

Please help keep the laundry rooms clean:

  • Always empty lint filters before and after use.
  • Do not leave washing detergent bottles, packaging, or large trash items in the laundry room.

→ Use the small bin only for lint and small waste.

  • Take everything (detergent containers, softeners, bags, etc.) back to your room after washing.
  • Wipe up spills and remove forgotten laundry if possible.

Typical issues

  • The display may show “1 minute remaining” for up to 10–15 minutes — this is normal.
  • If your money was accepted but the machine didn’t start, the error sequence was likely skipped.
  • Machines that blink or don’t respond are temporarily blocked.
  • If a serious malfunction occurs, contact the repair service: 089 – 89146920.

Safety & Liability

  • Use of the laundry rooms is at your own risk.
  • The dorm is not liable for lost or damaged items.
  • Please treat the machines with care and leave the room clean for others.
